The Real Facts About Abortions

Abortion Abortion is quite a controversial issue in today's government. Many of us refrain from even getting into a discussion over abortion, because it is such a sensitive topic. It is very unfortunate that so many women around the world have to make decisions involving abortion, period. â€Å"One in three women will have at least one abortion by the time she is 45, and these run the gamut of ages, races, backgrounds and beliefs. † (Welch) In one's eye abortion is simply immoral and unacceptable, while in another it is a typical procedure. Often, pro-abortionists are portrayed â€Å"†¦ s merciful and anti-abortionists as close-minded† (Olasky). As an outsider I interpret each group as one extreme to the other, and the purpose of this paper is to inform myself and the reader of both, pro-life and pro-choice sides and perspectives of abortion in the U. S. Somebody that claims to be in favor of the Pro-Life policy is opposed to wrongful death and in favor of life-enh ancing actions. The main argument of a pro-lifer is religious based beliefs. They argue that an abortion is immoral because, â€Å"†¦ all life was created by God and belongs to Him, no one has the right to murder another human being. (Cain) A person in favor of Pro-Life policy believes that having an abortion is a sin, but so is sex before marriage and half of the woman getting pregnant nowadays are not even out of high school. Does that mean that just because they decided to attempt to raise a baby at 15 that they have been forgiven for their original sin? No, either way they will be judged by those in favor of what is acceptable according to their religion. They even disagree on early abortions because they claim â€Å" life begins at conception†¦ † (Lowen). Anti-choice people â€Å"†¦ ant to outlaw abortion, regardless of the woman's situation† (The Problem). They don't see any exception for committing murder. Anti- Abortionists often compare abortio ns to Hitler and the concentration camps, â€Å"One out of every three children conceived in America since 1972 has died a brutal death through abortion—more than six times the number of Jews that Adolf Hitler put to death in his Nazi concentration camps. † (Roe) The cost of abortion is another issue for pro-lifer's, they think that the government shouldn't have to spend so much money to undermine future growth. â€Å"The inistry of health claimed that the 45,000 women treated in public hospitals for incomplete abortions each year is costing the state R19 million† (Cain). They believe tax dollars should not be used to provide women with this type of birth control, it is unfair to those who do not support the pro-choice policy and it is unacceptable. Being Pro-Choice means being in favor of safe and legal abortions, but also in reducing the need for abortions. Their religious beliefs are not a base for their opinions on abortion. Those who are in favor of the Pro -Choice policy argue that person-hood at conception is â€Å"†¦ ot a provable biological fact,† it is simply a religious belief (Choice Matters). Pro-choice supporters give women the benefit of the doubt allow for a logical explanation for an abortion. Abortions are medically necessary for some women, â€Å"Teen girls, whose bodies are not yet ready for childbirth, are five times more likely to die† (Health). In a case like that would it be fair to pass judgment? The same goes for woman who are raped. Pro-choice people argue that instead of trying to prohibit abortion altogether, we should try alternate methods like; safe, affordable contraceptives and comprehensive sex education. Laws against abortion do not stop abortion; they simply make it less safe†¦ the only thing that changes is more women die† (Health). Outlawing it would lead women to turn to unsafe abortions, not conducted in clinics. For some families abortion â€Å"†¦ helps parents lim it their families to number of children they want and can afford, both financially and emotionally† (Choice Matters). Taking away the civil rights of women and/or families by making it illegal to have abortions, will only lead to more poverty in the United States and lead to increasing government spending on welfare.According to the First Amendment, we all have our right to privacy. I am a woman myself and I honestly wouldn't appreciate strangers making decisions for me. What happens in the privacy of one woman's body doesn't belong out in the open for everyone else to critique. I am fully aware that if a woman feels she is mature enough to have sexual intercourse, then she should be prepared to face the possible consequences, but this is the real world and we are only human. Mistakes do happen. I do not support women getting abortions just because they are promiscuous and lazy.Of course the abstinence policy is the best policy, but as long as we are living on planet Earth, th at just won't cut it. Just like Hillary Clinton, I believe that, â€Å"†¦ whatever side you're on in the pro-choice vs. pro-life debate,†¦ we can all agree on a third principle: we would be better off with fewer of them† (Sullivan). I personally think that providing all sexually active women with contraceptives is the smartest thing to do in order to decrease high rates of abortion. In the United states, â€Å"†¦ 74% say having a baby would interfere with work, school, or other responsibilities† (United States). Some women may have to go through with an abortion simply because she has severe health risks that may possibly kill her if she went into labor. She may want a child just as bad as many other women except her body cant support a pregnancy. Or, if a women is raped she shouldn't have to relive the agony of such an event every single day for 9 months. What if she didn't even want kids? Just because she got pregnant from a rapist, doesn't mean she has to raise his child. Some â€Å"†¦ people say an aborted child might have grown up to be President. There's a better chance he would have grown up to be the one who shot the President† (Olasky). It would all really depend on the mother of that child, if she kept the kid and ended up to resent him/her then, that would most likely effect the child in a negative manner; it would make that child have a negative outlook on life. He/she would hate everything and everyone. In that situation in my eyes, the mother would be doing the kid and herself a favor. I'm not saying I would be the one to have an abortion, because in the end I most likely wouldn't have the heart to get rid of something that I partially created.I would think, what if he/she is the only chance I have at ever being a mother? What if I only had one shot and I blew it? On the other hand, I would recap on all the things I could potentially loose out on because I decided to have a child that I wasn't capable of rai sing yet. At the end of the day, deciding to abort a baby depends on the situation a women may be in at that point of her life; it doesn't depend on all of the outsiders who think they have the right to decide for her. Every women has a life and has a choice, and the reasoning behind her decision is completely personal. After conducting all of my research, I noticed that there are strong points on each side of abortion. No matter what position a person takes on this issue, there will always be others critiquing it. I think it is important to accept some woman's reasons for abortion, but at the same time support the fight on lowering the needs for abortion. We need to educate women about their choices and consequences. Birth control methods need to be expressed and easily obtained. Until the Pro-Choice v. Pro-Life fight gets settled, the United States will only get more and more divided as a nation.

Pakistani Girl Got Shot

Pakistani girl got shot In the last century, women empowerment movements swept across Europe clamoring for gender equality. The successful struggle granted girls and women the right to education in many countries. Nevertheless, until today, the blessing hasnt reached Pakistan. Falling into the shadow of Taliban, universal education is nothing more than a pipe dream to many girls there. Malala,a 15-year-old activist who promoted women's right to education in Pakistan was shot in the head by Taliban militants on her way home on October 19th.Despite being swiftly sent to a hospital in Britain, the life of the young heroine was at stake. The heinous attack sent shock waves through the nation and fanned up the indignation of the international community. ‘ believe while international community should fght against the Taliban militants ,the Pakistan government and people are responsible for the tragedy Mingled with rage and appal,' found the case of Malala was Just the tip of the iceberg i n Pakistan. ‘ condemn the unforgivable acts of the Taliban militants and believe theInternational community shall counteract these subversive beasts at all costs. Education is a universal right and nobody should be denied access to it. lt is never confine to a gender or race. Therefore, for the sake of Justice and peace,The international community should follow the Taliban millitants to the end of the Earth while giving profuse support to the victims. The Pakistani government, though menaced by the Taliban militants, should not watch the battle with folded arms. Apart from lives and properties,a responsible overnment should safeguard the rights and freedom of its people.Education, without doubts,is among the basic rights. Sadly to say,the education system in Pakistan is still a crawling toddler. People languish at the bottom of the world literacy list due to the fact that the government drains away immense resources on military defense. Without the government's sincere support of education for its people,no wonder terrorist suppression on girls' education remains unchecked for ages. In addition, the deprivation of education of many girls has much to do with the vicious ocial practice in Pakistan.Girls drop out of school early to Join parents at work while some are married off as teenagers. consequently, girls could not climb up the social ladder when they grow up and poverty haunts them for good. The lack of support from parents is also a decisive factor favoring the Taliban's crackdown on education. To save countries like Pakistan from miseries,' hope the international peacekeeping values. Last but not least, may Malala and other victims speedy recovery, may education become universal and may the world a long-lasting peace.

Fresh Prine of Bel Air Essay

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is about a young man named Will who is sent to live in Beverly Hills with his rich aunt and uncle who already have three children. Will is sent to live in Beverly Hills because his mother does not want him to be raised in a neighborhood full of crime and low life. She feels that he stands a better chance of a better education and life with people that have money and were educated. Will’s mother expected him to become respectful, responsible, and mature. The show deals with his life experiences as a young African American who is just trying to get by life and school. He also deals with similar teenage experiences that occur today. The show stays interesting because Will brings a bit of his neighborhood soul and street smarts to the Banks family. He teaches them what he has learned and they teach him how rich, high society people should act. In every episode, Will brings them back to reality, his old life experiences. He teaches them that money isn’t everything In return, the Banks teach him a few things that highly educated people have experienced. Although Fresh Prince of Bel Air has real world life experiences, the show portrays how African Americans during the 1990’s were rising and beginning to take status in society. They were getting educated just like any other person. Television producers were making a statement to society; African Americans were no longer staying behind educationally. Although African Americans were getting educated and climbing the latter of success, discrimination still existed. In the 1980’s Molefi Kete Asante published a book, â€Å"Afrocentricity† this book was based on the idea that looking at information from, â€Å"a black perspective† as opposed to the norm, â€Å"the white perspective†. Afrocentricity: The theory of social concept. It points out the black ideas and values. African Americans began reaching out to their own history. Seeing what is the best interest of for the African people and â€Å"emphasizing r promoting emphasis on African culture and the contributions of Africans to the development of Western civilization. † Although the Fresh Prince of Bel Air doesn’t use the phrase afrocentricity, the show bases many of the episodes on this idea. For example, in one episode, Will fights to try to keep his old neighborhood in his heart, his old ways, his friends, and his old simple life, he misses who he once was. His uncle Phil Banks helps him to realize that he can use the good of both worlds to make his own life. In the end his black values that he was raised with were never forgotten. In all episodes, Will is very proud of his heritage. He stands up for what he believes in and this is what made the show popular. Blacks were talking about what they believed in and people were listening. When the audience took interest in this sitcom, more people began to see the rise in more black actors and actresses throughout the years. Blacks were also rising in status and having political views. They were being transformed to the center of the stage, the white man’s stage and whites were accepting the different norm. There was more respect for African Americans who were becoming educated and rising to the top of jobs such as judges and doctors. Although the Fresh Prince of Bel Air delt with African Americans being accepted into a white man’s world, the sitcom also showed the one thing that African Americans cannot seem to leave behind them, discrimination. The show reminds African American’s that although they have come a long way since Martin Luther King, they still continued to meet with people that discriminated against them. One of the popular episodes of Fresh Prince of BelAir is â€Å"Racism at Hillman College†, Carlton faces a time where he is being discriminated against. Carlton and Will get stopped by a white police officer because they are two black guys in a nice luxury car. The officer thinks that they stole the car. Will sees that they are being discriminated, but Carlton gives the officer the benefit of the doubt, â€Å"He’s just doing his job† Will on the other hand sees right through the officer and like any criminal from his old neighborhood, he leans up against the car to be searched, while Carlton is wondering what is going on. Will tries to explain what is happening to Carlton,Will quotes, â€Å"If you see a black guy drive anything but a burned out Pinto, then you better stop him because he stole it. † Although Will understands discrimination, Carlton has been hidden from that in his easy rich life. His parents raised him in a different world from Will. Carlton sees the good in all, but Will sees the real world. In 1990, discrimination was still very much alive. Many television producers were using sitcoms such as the Fresh Prince of Bel Air to remind people that this behavior still exist and we need to put a stop to it. Although discrimination is still very much alive today, children are learning from these sitcoms that discrimination is not good. The more interrelations among different ethnic groups being seen in these type of shoes, can help our future look a bit more peaceful. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air sitcom was used to show all ethnic groups that African Americans were on the rise to a better education and better jobs. African American were showing society that the old norms were being broken. They were helping others to understand that their views were just as important as white man’s views. Yet, the sitcom continued to show that discrimination still exist in today’s society. Looking at sitcoms today, they still continue to show society that this world we live in is not perfect, discrimination still exist among all races. The Fresh Prince of BelAir shows how African-Americans are on the rise, getting a higher education and taking on higher power positions. The Fresh Prince of BelAir is basically showing the world that all colors can interact with one another to make this planet of ours a place to be proud of and a place that we can call free of discrimination.

Implementing a non tradional benefit to your organization Case Study

Implementing a non tradional benefit to your organization - Case Study Example The programs will consist of two parts: health=related benefits and a special financial aid for mother with toddlers. The first step is development of the plan and information gathering. The second step is needs identification. The benefits will be paid in accordance with age and family status of a mother. Single mothers with children will receive double benefits. Mothers with two children and more will receive benefits for all children. The third step is budget and compensation schemes development. Rather than one uniform benefits plan for every person, planners increasingly see a range of program choices for designing a compensation plan to meet the specific needs and requirements of each unique employee (Calvey and Jansz 2005). It is expected that plans will focus on one of three distinct goals: attracting and retaining qualified employees, motivating employees, and controlling costs. Although the planner would like to achieve each goal, it is also true that it is very difficult if not impossible to achieve the best in each goal simultaneously. This means setting benefits rates at or above the market average. . In addition, several of these exercises put you in the position of designing compensation and benefits plans to meet the specific operating requirements of the organizations in question (Robert Half International. 2007). In SunDusk, employers must pay attention to the prevailing wage and salary levels paid for various jobs and skills. Were employers to ignore what the market is paying, they would soon discover either that they cannot keep employees because their rates are too low, or they cannot make a profit because their rates are too high. Establishing a competitive wage and salary program is an essential building block for effective compensation planning and administration. Beyond grounding pay rates in competitive market conditions, benefits for women with children should be properly structured and designed to support organizational goals (Fakler, 2005). Such issues as how much money it takes to serve as a lure to more performance, ethical concerns in using incentive plans, and fully aligning incentive plans with organizational requirements are all vital ingredients to effective plan design. Benefits plans and designs are important in their own way. Such plans can consume a sizable portion of to tal compensation dollars. For that expense, employers would like to receive--but often have trouble obtaining--returns in employee goodwill and performance. For these reasons, effective benefits design is often a silent but important partner in human resources planning and administration (Calvey and Jansz 2005). Each month a single mother will receive $200 of benefits for one child till 5 years old. The expected outcomes of the non-traditional benefits are motivation and low labor turnover among women employees. The growth of the business is very sensitive to the overall quality of service provided in the unit. Customers who are satisfied with the service they receive will return to buy additional products and services, and will refer other customers to the stores (Robert Half International. 2007). The non-traditional benefits are in response to an employee's poor job performance and not because of perceived or suspected

Islamic Philosophy and Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Islamic Philosophy and Law - Essay Example The result was a split between the Sunnis, who sought elections, and the Shi-ites, who sought a heritage accession. Now, the rift has meant further difference between the two groups of Islam who have claimed their respective leaders as political figures (in the case of the Sunnis) and prophets with divine insight (in the case of the Shi-ites). As such, followers of both sects have a different kind of respect for their leader and for the modern translations of ancient Islamic texts. Islamic law is very specific, with rules governing everything from punishments for stealing or adultery to the proper methods for burying the dead or how to conduct business. Sunni law is based on four different schools: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafii and Hanbali, with specific reference to both the Qur'an and the Sunnah as perfected doctrine. While Sunni laws are quite similar to Shi-ite laws in that they subscribe to both major texts, the major differences in law are in terms of modern society. As Shi-ites put faith in their divine leaders (Imams) to show them towards the path of religious enlightenment through Islamic law, the majority of Sunnis instead believe that with democratic elections their people might be able to use religious doctrine to the best of their abilities in politics. Both sides are adamant in their interpretations of Islamic belief and law, and as such are often at violent odds with one another. Sunnis reason that it is through the already perfected Islamic texts that Muslims will find enlightenment, while Shi-ites conversely believe that the descendents of Muhammad are able to bring deeper insights to the previous texts and offer a better way of life for the future. Because of these differences, inheritance laws and punishment laws differ between the two Islamic sects and no permanent common ground has been cultivated as yet. Not unlike the rift between Catholics and the Orthodox Church, Sunni and Shi-ite Muslims have both grown past their original religious teachings to such an extent that the two can never come back together; in terms of governance this proves to be a continuously difficult challenge in the Middle East. Islamic philosophy has been influenced a great deal by the Persian (or in modern terms Iranian) theologian Al-Ghazali, who lived from 1058 to 1111. Al-Ghazali believed that every event and interaction was occasionalistic, or the will of god as opposed to a simple physical reality. He wrote a book called The Incoherence of the Philosophers in the 11th century that would change the face of Islamic theology greatly for years to come; the book moved the Islamic school of thought from its focus on Greek philosophers Aristotle and Plato towards a more rigorously religious point of view. Where Islamic scholars of past centuries had celebrated the teachings of Greeks like Plato and Socrates, Al-Ghazali denounced the men as non-believers and encouraged his fellow Muslims to embrace their religion instead of thinking outside of it. He made clear his belief that supporters of Greek philosophy were being disloyal to Islam, and literally hundreds of Muslims gathered to hear these theories where h e lectured at the Al-Nizamiyya

Influence of the Western Roman Empire Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Influence of the Western Roman Empire - Essay Example Initially, Rome was a single city but later expanded to a great empire that controlled the Mediterranean coastal region. Roman period had two entities, the Republican Period and the Empire; each lasted for half a millennium. The empire was divided into Principate that lasted from 27 BCE to 180 CE and autocracy from 284 to 395CE (Damerow Web). The Roman Empire began with Augustus. Emperors were the ruler of the empire. Christianity rose during the autocracy period and replaced paganism. In addition, monotheistic belief replaced polytheist cult system. The rise of the medieval period was because of Roman influence. Furthermore, the foundation of Roman Civilization was on Roman values and existed even before the rise of Christianity. Romans people were successful in various fields such as art, government, military organization, and public. They borrowed ideas from Greeks and Hellenistic world. This paper seeks to focus on the influence of the Western Roman Empire within the period from 200 BCE to 476 C. Many aspects of society that exist today have been influenced by ancient Rome. They range from law, democratic government practices, influence in language, literature, art, infrastructure, and city planning. The Western Roman Empire had a tremendous influence in law, religion, architecture, and culture. This was largely important within the period from 200 BCE to 476 CE. This influence was usually perpetuated during the Romans territorial expansion. This influence especially was based on areas it controlled the western Mediterranean. They also established legal code that formed part of western legal code. Moreover, their institutions, technology, and infrastructure continue to influence their successors in this region. The legacy of Western Roman Empire influence on culture was great. The significance of this transformation cannot be ignored as it ushered in the medieval period of history. There was a complete change of culture from the way people married, raised t heir children, and died. Actually, it resulted in a trans-valuation of all values. The most important aspect of culture was the transmission off Greek (Hellenistic) culture to the west. The Roman's were at their peak of cultural influence between 200 BCE and 200 CE. Romans were known of copying cultures and adopting them as their own. They adopted Latin as their language and were majorly used in the western world during this period. As a result, Latin became the official language of the Western Roman Empire. Latin formed the basis for Romance language after Germanic invasions in 4th and 5th centuries. The Romance Languages composed of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. At the time of decline of Western Roman Empire, the Catholic Church (monks) continued to preserve and transmit Greek texts and ideas. Latin also remained the language for the Roman Catholic Church and the second half of 20th century. Moreover, this language developed between 200 BCE to 476 CE continued to be us ed by the educated later in the centuries such as educated people. At this period, several other language adopted Latin words. Most of the medical, legal, philosophical, and scientific terms are based on Latin language. Additionally, Roman law dominated western side. This was based on the twelve tablets through the Corpus Juris Civils and was famous in 200 BCE to 476 CE. The Roman Catholic
